Accusations of complacency are usually made with the benefit of hindsight. In the aftermath of the 2008 crash, many who had quietly enjoyed the fruits of the economic boom that preceded it suddenly kicked up a clamour, pointing out the now-obvious mistakes made and wondering how those in high finance didn't see it coming.

Such accusations are rarely made in advance of a crisis point, and even more rarely are they listened to. It's not much fun being the canary down the mine, after all
